Remaining cold with light wintry showers

by Kent Weather Tuesday, January 15 2013

A mostly bright but cold start to this morning with a few places seeing a light dusting from overnight snow. The remainder of today shall continue to remain bright with some good spells of sunshine with just a few very light showers of sleet or snow flurries  affecting the far NE fringes. Feeling bitterly cold in the Northerly wind with highs of 1-3°C. Windchill between -3 to -5°C.

This evening and overnight sees little change in terms of the general picture with further snow showers to affect East Kent and some light flurries sneaking into North-Western parts. Elsewhere remaining dry with widespread frost and ice in the East on untreated surfaces. Lows of -2/-3°C, colder still in rural areas in a light Easterly wind. Windchill of -6°C.

For Wednesday, further wintry showers to affect Northern and Eastern areas of the county. These mostly as sleet but some snow showers are possible slightly further inland. Another bitterly cold day in the wind which returns to a Northerly direction with temperatures barely above 0°C in the West but 2-3°C in the East. Windchill of -4°C.

Wednesday night and into Thursday we'll keep a few wintry showers towards NE/E Kent coasts where cloud is at its thickest. Otherwise another clear and very cold night with lows again of -2/-3°C leading to a widespread, hard frost.

So in summary remaining cold, some further snow showers at times but NO accumulations are expected. Any that do occur will be a light dusting at best.

Cold. Risk of wintry showers. Sunny Sunday

by Kent Weather Saturday, January 12 2013

An overcast and cold start this morning with rain on radar making its way towards us in the next hour or so. The rain will be with us through the day making an already cold day feel colder and although most model data keeps this as rain, the odd bit of sleet is still possible with a few flakes of snow likely above 150-200 meters. A notable breeze with highs of 2-3°C but with the wind-chill feeling more like -2/-3°C.

For this evening and overnight the rain and sleet, perhaps even some light snow showers on the back edge pulls away South and clear skies invade from the North leaving us with lows of 0/-1°C by morning and ice on untreated surfaces so please be careful when venturing out.

Sunday although a frosty and icy start shall be a beautiful winters day with plenty of sunshine to enjoy. Remaining cold in the North-Easterly breeze with highs of 3°C but again, with the wind chill we're looking at the day feeling like it is between -2 to -4°C.

Sunday evening and through into Monday sees cloud cover increasing ahead of a occluded front slipping through the country towards us so a risk of a few wintry showers or some light snow around N and E coasts before a more general band of snow arrives Monday morning. Lows of -1/-2°C.

The next 2 day outlook shall be issued Sunday evening with a good chance for an alert being issued during Sunday itself as it is likely I will be offline during Monday.

Overcast. Mostly dry but cold

by Kent Weather Thursday, January 10 2013

Good morning one and all. It is another overcast day out there with some mist, fog and drizzle and cold temperatures to start us off. Through the day there shall be little  change although the drizzle should fade away. Remaining on the cold side, particularly where any mist and fog patches linger with highs of just between 4-7°C in light winds.

This evening and through the night shall remain overcast and is expected to remain dry. With light winds some mist and fog is once again possible. Lows of between 0 to 2°C. A frosty morning to kick us off.

So Friday it's a similar story with low cloud bringing the risk of a few showers although the latter part of the afternoon should see some brightness appearing. With the winds now generally coming from the East it shall be another cold day with highs at best of 4-5°C.

Friday evening into Saturday sees clear skies and frost forming once again. Lows of 0°C.

Mostly settled, some rain

by Kent Weather Tuesday, January 8 2013

Some brightness about today, even a few sunny spells for the lucky ones. The remainder of the day shall continue to see some bright spells at times although cloud is likely to cover the county and take away any brightness that we have seen during the morning sadly. A breezy day and feeling cool with highs of 9°C.

This evening and overnight has a front moving through bringing rain with it which stays with us through into tomorrow morning. Breezy still with lows of 7°C.

For Wednesday it does appear the front is going to linger longer then originally thought so expect further cloud and rain sadly although the rain should eventually clear into the afternoon. Light winds and highs of 8-9°C.

Wednesday evening through into Thursday remains cloudy, some showers around the coasts. Lows of 6°C.

A little note about the weekend and possibly next week. As mentioned often on the K-W Facebook and Twitter, changes do look to be on the way with much colder air arriving in the next few days which of course shall bring an increasing risk of wintry weather BUT! And it's a big but, it's too early to tell if there is any snow to come with it. The next forecast shall give a little more information =)

For Saturday there is little change to talk of. Remaining overcast and dry with a slight breeze. Highs of 10°C.

Red sky in the morning

by Kent Weather Wednesday, January 2 2013

It's a fairly decent, bright start with a real pretty sunrise for the early rises in parts of the county. It was a red sky though which the old wives tale dictates shepherds warning for rain to arrive. And today shows how right that is with rain, generally light for the most part - set to arrive as we enter this afternoon. Breezy with highs of 9°C.

This evening and overnight sees further outbreaks of rain, more notably in the Eastern half of the county. Rain shall clear from midnight onwards. Remaining overcast and breezy with lows of 9°C.

Little changes for Thursday. Remaining overcast with a gentle breeze. Slightly breezier around the coasts of course but remaining dry. Highs of 11°C.

Thursday evening through into Friday remains overcast but dry. Breezy still, lows of 9°C.

Windy with some rain. Some brighter spells

by Kent Weather Saturday, December 29 2012

A fairly bright and sunny morning for parts sadly gets eroded away from the West as we see a band of rain arriving into this afternoon. Windy for much of the day with some gusts of between 40-50mph and highs of 10°C.

This evening shall see the rain move away with a mostly clear night developing though a few heavy showers are still possible, mostly around and through the Channel. Remaining windy, lows of 7°C.

Sunday sees a mostly sunny start and we should keep the fairly decent weather with us for much of the day. Remaining dry but windy, highs of 9°C.

Sunday evening and overnight shall remain mostly rain free with a few showers possible as we head into Monday morning. Remaining windy with lows of 9°C.

Remaining wet with further rainfall

by Kent Weather Thursday, December 27 2012

A band of heavy rain is currently moving through the county with a risk of some thunder/lightning embedded within. This area of thundery rainfall shall move East over the next couple of hours before clearing into the afternoon. Windy with highs of 9-10°C.

For this evening and overnight it shall remain dry with some long clear spells, clouding over towards the morning commute. Light winds and lows of 4°C.

For Friday, the morning cloud cover shall bring further rainfall across the county with the heaviest of this clearing into the afternoon but leaving further showers and spells of rain in its wake. A mild but windy day with highs of 11°C.

Friday evening into Saturday sees the rain ease off although showers are still likely with further rain yet again waiting to arrive for Saturday. Becoming very windy with coastal gales. Lows of 9°C.

Extended Christmas forecast

by Kent Weather Sunday, December 23 2012

With the Christmas period now around the corner this is an extended forecast to cover that all important period and also the only time of the year in which I'm on "vacation". So I thank you for all of your support over the year & wish yourselves and the ones closest to you a very merry Christmas and I shall next post on the 27th.

For Sunday we're still seeing the chance of some light rain or drizzle but overall a much better day and should remain mostly dry for many, even some brighter spells at times although with the exception of some Southern coastlines perhaps. Another mild day with highs of 12-13°C.

Sunday evening through into the start of Christmas eve shall be overcast with rain arriving after 9pm and clearing by the morning. Becoming windy with the risk of some gusts touching gale force for a time. Lows of 8°C.

For Christmas eve itself after a windy start it's likely to remain overcast with some light rain at times but not as bad as we have seen over recent days thankfully. Highs of 11°C but keeping a strong breeze.

The all important evening into Christmas day another spell of wet weather moves across the county from the South-West in a fresh breeze. Overnight lows of 7°C.

Christmas day: Overcast and windy. Rain on and off for much of the day. Highs of 9°C. Drier with lighter winds during the evening and overnight. Lows of 4-5°C.

Boxing day: A dry and bright day, some sunshine possible. Cloudier towards the evening as rain approaches. breezy, 8°C.

Wednesday evening into Thursday morning: Further rain (!) for a time though expected to clear after midnight. Breezy still with lows of 5°C.
